Cancellation & Refund Policy

Our commitment to fair and transparent booking practices.

1. Standard Guest Cancellations

At Elite Stays SA, we understand that travel plans can change unexpectedly. To protect both our guests and our property hosts, we enforce a strict but fair cancellation timeline:

  • Full Refund (100%): Cancellations made at least 14 days prior to the scheduled check-in date will receive a 100% refund of the accommodation fee.
  • Partial Refund (50%): Cancellations made between 7 and 14 days prior to the scheduled check-in date will receive a 50% refund of the accommodation fee.
  • No Refund (0%): Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to check-in, as well as "no-shows," are not eligible for any refund.

*Note: The Elite Stays SA Service Fee (if applicable) is non-refundable once a booking has been confirmed by the host.

2. Host Cancellations

In the rare and unlikely event that a Host must cancel a confirmed reservation due to an emergency or property damage:

  • You will receive an immediate and automatic 100% full refund (including any service fees).
  • Our VIP Support Team will contact you directly to assist in finding alternative luxury accommodation of equal or greater value on our platform.

3. Extenuating Circumstances & Force Majeure

We may override the standard cancellation policy and issue refunds in cases of severe extenuating circumstances that make the trip illegal or impossible. These include:

  • Declared national emergencies, epidemics, or pandemics (excluding known, ongoing situations like COVID-19).
  • Government-mandated travel restrictions or border closures.
  • Severe natural disasters severely impacting the destination property.

Personal illnesses, transportation disruptions (like cancelled flights), or standard weather conditions do not qualify as extenuating circumstances. We highly recommend purchasing independent travel insurance to cover these events.

4. Refund Processing Times

Once a cancellation is initiated and a refund is approved, please allow time for your financial institution to process the transaction. All refunds are issued in South African Rand (ZAR) back to the original payment method.

  • Credit / Debit Cards: 5 to 10 business days.
  • EFT / Bank Transfers: 3 to 7 business days.

If you have not received your funds after 10 business days, please contact your bank before reaching out to our support team.

5. How to Cancel a Reservation

To cancel a trip, log into your Elite Stays SA account, navigate to the My Trips portal, select the upcoming reservation, and click "Cancel Trip". The system will automatically calculate your eligible refund based on the timeline outlined in Section 1.
